The project “Soil & Seeds” aims at providing elderly people and people with disabilities with a purposeful outdoor activity in their care homes  and day centers: to grow an organic edible garden.

The project has been put together by staff from different public health and social centres, the Associació de Pagesos de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, the Associació d’Agricultura Ecològica d’Eivissa i Formentera (APAEEF) and Ibiza Produce. They decided to join forces to be able to set up organic edible gardens in several centers on the island. The crowdfunding has been launched together with (Ma), a Learning Lab for Sustainable Transformation, through its local fundraising platform aimed at local impact projects.

Would you like to learn more about this project? Below you can find out more details, how to collaborate and some special benefits if you’re contributing as a company (see section: “Details for companies”).

A prize of a “Co-creative Innovation Workshop” carried out by (Ma) is to be drawn among the companies sponsoring the project.

Project goal:

The project “Soil and Seeds” (Huertos para compartir, in Spanish) aims at providing elderly people and people with disabilities with a purposeful activity by growing and taking care of the soil and seeds which they will plant. It is a way of incorporating and sharing a responsibility in their day to day routines, and they can also feel useful and enjoy eating what they have produced.

As we know, many of the elderly in the residencias have been through a difficult year in which they haven’t been able to receive regular visits from family and friends, due to COVID restrictions. They haven’t just been facing physical distancing but also social. In fact, many of the people living in the residencias have probably dedicated a great part of their lives to taking care of Ibiza’s land and soil. So this project won’t only give them a special purpose, but it can also be stimulating to remember and share good practices and knowledge.

How much are we aiming to raise and what will it be used for?

Our goal is to raise funds to implement a total of 16 organic edible gardens–4 per center in order to be able to ensure crop rotation. The gardens will be installed in the following centers: 4 units at the Cas Serres Hospital Residencia Asistida, 4 units at the Sa Serra Residencia, 4 units at the Cas Serres Centro de día de trastornos de la memoria, and 4 units at the Occupational center for people with disabilities of Cas Serres.

The price of each garden is 476.95 EUR, which includes materials, assembly, transport and APAEEF’s training sessions. Therefore, the project seeks to raise a total of 7,631.00 EUR, which will benefit a total of 175 people between the different centers.

Details for sponsoring companies

Given the circumstances which we have been living during this last year and the challenges which many small local businesses are facing to keep their teams going, through this project (Ma) wants to incentivise innovation within the collaborating companies. “Approximately two thirds of economic growth registered in Europe during the last decades has been a result of innovation”, according to the European Commission

For this reason, (Ma) is sponsoring a “Co-creative Innovation Workshop”, a prize to be drawn among the companies which donate to this project. The workshop will be personalised according to the needs identified by the company and will train a team of up to 15 people.

In addition, sponsoring companies will be eligible for a 30% discount off one of (Ma)’s workshops.

More details on the workshop here.

For tax purposes both independent donors and companies can acquire a certificate of the donations carried out. For this end, we request that you please include your name, address and personal ID or tax number, in the “Comments” section when making the payment through our website. When providing us with this information for tax purposes, you accept that we will facilitate your details to the collaborating organisation. Should you not provide us with your personal ID or tax number, we will not be sharing your data with Ibiza Preservation Foundation, unless otherwise requested.
